From the Heart: The Great Reunion

In Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians, in chapter four he is answering a question the Thessalonians had asked. “What happens to the people that die before the second coming of Christ?”

From the Heart: Box of Worry

The Word says that Jesus went upon a mountain side and sat down and his disciples came to him and he began to teach them. I am convinced that it’s no coincidence that just before he instructs them on worry he tells them not to store up treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.

There was a young man who had no interest in spiritual matters. He didn’t read the Bible, didn’t go to church and didn’t associate much with those that did. Now there was an old preacher that had visited with him several times and had tried to get the young man to attend his services. He told the young man that he was starting a special series of lessons for the next four Sundays and if he would attend he would not bother him with any more visits. The young man said fair enough.

Come and join us as we study the trials, hardships and triumphs of these four families in the Bible. We will walk in their footsteps, feel their disappointments and share in their triumphs as they put their trust and faith in God.

From the Heart: Those Gone Before

Think about those that have gone before, some even giving their lives so we could hear about Jesus. They were the pioneers. And now perhaps God has placed us in a position where resistance to the gospel is strong. And maybe our influence in that God-appointed spot can clear the way for others to follow.

From the Heart: From the Author

Why do we read our Bibles? Are we fascinated by its drama and intrigued by its insights? Do we read it because we know we should? Those reasons are good ones but our real motivation for reading God’s Word should be to get to know the Author. The Bible reveals the character of God. As we read the Bible our prayer should be that we can truly know God.

Thursday Thoughts: Learn From Me

When I consider the problems of life or a particular issue that is threatening the body of Christ I tend to attack that problem and feel like I must overcome this problem myself. I have learned that this generally causes me to labor and become heavy laden and I have little rest. It is not until I “learn from Jesus” to be gentle and lowly in heart and come to Jesus with my problems that I find rest and my approach to these problems takes a different direction.

Peter didn’t sink because he quit believing in Jesus’ ability to keep him afloat. He began to sink because he began to trust in his own ability. Faith isn’t about our ability; it is complete trust in Jesus.
