From the Heart: Run With Endurance

From the Heart: Run With Endurance

At one point I was so tired I could hardly keep up. But I was afraid to slow down thinking they might lose me in the dark. Our two hour fishing trip turned into four and a half hours and when I finally saw the head lights on the truck and mom standing there waiting I had never been so glad of anything in my life.

From the Heart: Remembering

From the Heart: Remembering

Like married couples remembering back, we can recall God’s work, his great victories and his promises and proofs of his great love toward his people. Forgetting, on the other hand, almost amounts to treason. If one person forgets the all-important anniversary, tears and anger may follow.

From the Heart: Looking Above the Tumult

From the Heart: Looking Above the Tumult

There is little doubt that today’s world is in revolt against God. The powers of evil seem greater and louder than the forces for righteousness. But we need not be depressed by these frightening facts. God is on His throne.

From the Heart: Sin Hurts God

From the Heart: Sin Hurts God

Satan knows us. He knows our strengths and our weaknesses. And he knows what and when to tempt us. God understands that and that’s why he sent His Son to redeem our souls from Satan.

From the Heart: Take Courage, It Is I

From the Heart: Take Courage, It Is I

The terror stricken disciples saw Jesus coming toward them walking on the water and they didn’t quite know what was really happening. Was it a ghost or something even more terrifying? Can you imagine the relief they felt when Jesus said, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”

From the Heart: Shaping Up For Heaven

From the Heart: Shaping Up For Heaven

The scripture says our bodies are temporary houses of clay. A place where our eternal spirit lives until our body returns to dust. The pressure of God’s hand may hurt as he shapes our lives but we should remember he is getting us ready to fit in up there.

From the Heart: St. Nicholas

From the Heart: St. Nicholas

Many Christian parents wonder what to tell their children about Santa Claus. Some see red when they think about that jolly old elf getting all the credit. Others view him as a delightful fantasy that can do no harm. However, we could use Santa as a springboard for reinforcing young minds with the true meaning of Christmas.

From the Heart: Looking Back

From the Heart: Looking Back

Have you ever driven up a mountain side and stopped near the top and looked back? I remember diving from Phoenix to Flagstaff, Arizona. I had some time to kill so I took the old road instead of the interstate. Near the top there is a place to pull off the road and look back down the mountain. When I stopped and looked back from where I had come, it now seemed clearer, less treacherous, even the fog bank through which I had inched my way seemed clearer.

From the Heart: The Power of Prayer

From the Heart: The Power of Prayer

I want to thank all my readers for your prayers. And to impress upon your minds that God is always listening when we call out to him. Whether we are crying out for help or shouting for joy, His communication line is always open. He is your friend, talk to Him, even about the little things. I’ve heard it said that anything that’s big enough to worry about is big enough to pray about.

It was obvious now that the boy had some special needs and was somewhat startled as he turned and saw Steve standing so close to him waiting to squeeze by. His eyes widened and you could see the surprise look on his face.

From the Heart: The Elijah Complex

From the Heart: The Elijah Complex

It’s not uncommon for some elderly people to feel like they have fulfilled their purpose. Like Elijah, they simply give up and wish that God would come on and take them home to heaven. Yet, whether they realize it or not, they are still a significant part of life. Many Christians have been encouraged by the patience, wisdom, and intercession of older people who love the Lord. Only eternity will reveal the full impact of their spiritual contribution.
