From the Heart: Trust God’s Word

Read Psalm 89:30-37

v.34: My covenant I will not break, nor alter the words that have gone out of my lips.

This is the time of year that many are planning and taking vacations. This was true for a middle-aged couple I read about recently. Before leaving on their vacation they talked to their son and his wife about looking after things while they were gone.

Their son and daughter-in-law came over and met with them and promised they would keep things in order until they returned. The son said, don’t worry Mom and Dad, we will watch the house, take in the mail, take out the trash, and keep the grass cut and if anything else comes up we will take care of it.

Now Mom and Dad hadn’t been gone very long before they began to worry, What if the don’t pick up the mail and some checks are stolen? What if they are careless about locking the doors and our possessions are stolen? And what if they don’t cut the grass? What will the neighbors think?

They worried for days about all the “what ifs” and it ruined their vacation. So they cut their vacation short and returned home. When they pulled into the driveway, they saw the grass was neatly cut. The mail had been removed from the mail box and taken inside and the house was in perfect order.

They realized how foolish they had been because their children had kept their word.

So it is with God. He always keeps his word. Isaiah declared in chapter 40:8, “The Word of God stands forever.” This should give us great comfort and free us from worry. Why? Because it means that every promise of God will be kept.

Here are a few we would do well to remember:

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:19

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” Isa. 54:17

“I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you.” Isa. 41:10

“No good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11

Are you worried about what might happen in the future? If so it’s time to give it over to our almighty God. “Trust in Him!” His Word is true and faithful. Read it, Remember it, and Trust it.

A great place to start is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

PRAYER:

Holy Father, I do humbly come unto you today with a grateful heart. Knowing that you have made all the necessary arrangements for our salvation. And yes, Father you have promised that if we will simply trust your Word and obey your commands that You will give us a “heavenly home” when this life is finished. Thank You Father for your great love and for the Holy Spirit that guides us into all truth.

In Jesus Holy Name, AMEN!
