From the Heart: Sing For Freedom

Read Exodus 15:1-13

v.1,2 – I will sing to the Lord … He has become my salvation.

I was reading the other day about this preacher in Boston who lived near his church building. And as he was walking to the building one day he saw a young boy carrying some birds in a cage. The preacher said, where did you get those birds? The boy said, I trapped them in the field. What are you going to do with them, the preacher ask?

Oh, I’m going to play with them for a while and then I’ll feed them to my cat at home. They are just field birds and they can’t sing very well.

The preacher responded by saying, I’ll give you two dollars for the cage and the birds. That’s a deal the boy answered but you are making a bad deal because these birds aren’t worth anything.

The preacher paid the boy and took the bird cage behind the church building and released the birds. They flew away, free and singing.

The next Sunday the preacher took the bird cage and set it on the pulpit as he told the story. “When I released them,” he told his congregation, “they flew into the sky singing loudly as they disappeared into the blue. It seemed they were singing, ‘Redeemed, redeemed.”

People who don’t know Jesus as their Savior are like those birds before they were released. They can’t sing very well, because they are trapped in the cage of sin. But it doesn’t have to be that way,

John 8:36 says, “If the Son makes you free, you are free indeed.”

He gives freedom that puts a song in your heart. Like the famous Dr. King said, “Free at last, Free at last, Thank God Almighty, I’m free at last.” However, I’m sure he would agree that there is no freedom that compares to our freedom from sin.

When the Israelites were delivered from the bondage of Egypt, they proclaimed, “I will sing to the Lord …

He has become my salvation.” They were indeed set free from bondage by the Power of God and we too can be set free from sin and the bondage of Satan, if only we will accept Jesus as our personal Savior, repent of our sins and obey the commands of God by being baptized for the forgiveness of sins.

Then we can truly sing, “Redeemed, Redeemed” by the blood of the Lamb, we are free at last!

In Jesus Holy Name, Amen!

Holy Father, I humbly come to You with gratitude of heart, knowing that You gave your only begotten Son to be brutality beaten and crucified on Calvary’s cross to set us free from sins. Thank You Father, Thank You Lord and thank you to the Holy Spirit who brings the word of truth to each and every one. I ask You Father to continue to direct our lives that we too might one day fly free, into that heavenly home. In Jesus Name! Amen
