From the Heart: Shaping Up For Heaven

READ Psalm 71:14-21

I read a story recently about a man, who back during the depression, first lost his job, then all his savings, then his wife left him and he lost his home but never lost his faith in God. He said it was all he had left.

One day as he was walking down the road he stopped to watch these men who were building a stone church. One of them was using a chisel to cut out a triangular piece of rock. He asked the man what he was going to do with that little piece. The workman said, “Do you see that little opening way up there near the peak?” Well, I’m shaping this down here so it will fit in up there.”

Tears filled the eyes of this brokenhearted man as he slowly walked away. He thought to himself, that must explain the troubles I’m going through now. Maybe God is shaping me so I can fit in up there.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Cor. 4:16-18

Perhaps you have recently suffered a great loss. Or maybe you are going through some physical or emotional problems. The outward man seems to be perishing. Yet, if you know the Lord as your Savior, you need not despair. All these things are under the loving hand of our heavenly Father, who is using them to shape us for heaven.

The scripture says our bodies are temporary houses of clay. A place where our eternal spirit lives until our body returns to dust. The pressure of God’s hand may hurt as he shapes our lives but we should remember he is getting us ready to fit in up there.

PRAYER:

All-wise and almighty God, all glory and honor be to You our most gracious and loving Heavenly Father. May we come before You with praise for we know you are the only true and loving God; the one who gave us life and guides us daily, even as we falter. Lift us Father when we fall and shape our lives that we might be fit for heaven.

In Jesus Holy Name, AMEN!
